Rebranding Alban Dairy
Before Raw Design, Alban Dairy had no set guidelines to their brand.
Alban Dairy was a startup that was founded by milking one cow and creating delicious cheese, made out of love for the craft itself. A few years later, Alban expanded to a fully functioning farm with a wide range of products. Alban was seeking to: rebrand their identity, create a focused strategy for their future, organize their products for their consumers, and truly reflect the natural and loving nature of their brand culture.
After many visits to the farm and research about the market and company, the direction was determined by Alban’s desire to create the most natural products and to care for their farm animals with love. Their brand essence is delivering a “Hands-on Natural Lifestyle,” and that is the message of Alban.
Based on that, the design itself was developed by working directly with milk, yogurt and other materials to experiment with creating shapes and typography. As the essence is “hands-on,” everything needed to be done by hand. Illustrations were developed using watercolors, and each animal (category) was depicted with a portrait-like illustration to reflect the direct care and personal attention each animal receives at Alban.
A product matrix was developed to organize the different categories and create the various color codes for each product and its sub-category (full fat, low fat, etc).
The final brand communicated a very natural and distinct visual language that reflected the essence of the brand. Colors were carefully selected to be harmonious and desaturated enough to blend into a unified brand color palette.
The logo was developed from hands-on experimentation with dairy products to develop a type-based logo. The layout of the packages provides the end-user with direct and clear communication regarding the product and its contents, whether through large typographic elements on the top of each product to provide guidance, or the illustrated portrait of the animal for the product type.
